PAROS CEDAR | 2008

The highlight of the existing cedar as an important element which characterizes the house

The gently sloping site is located at the village of Agairia, in the island of Paros, offering an amphitheatric view towards the sea. The design includes a main holiday house of 140m2 and a guest house of 80m2. The building complex develops in a linear way creating a system of courtyards towards the view. The element of water and the cedar tree dominate these courtyards. At the interior a modernist aesthetics is implemented. The composition of volumes and the stepped thick parapets create a tectonic language with references to the vernacular. This cubistic synthesis is sculpted by natural light and shadow, surrendered to an unending change throughout the day. The element of cedar plays an important role in this synthesis, bestowing a unique identity to the house!
