ELEFTHERIAS SQUARE THESSALONIKI | 2013

The creation of a “slope”, a tilted green square with a double entity: green space -urban use.

Our concept is the creation of a “slope”, a tilted green square with a double entity: green space -urban use.

The “slope” rises to host various uses under it, allowing the continuation of the city grid and submerges near the seaside, to let the water flood in and unite square and sea.

At this low level, the “lower square” is created, planted with grass, marshland plants and waterjets, bringing images of northern Greece’s marshlands.

On the smooth slope, a paved zigzagged path, leads to the “upper square”, with sitting areas and views towards the sea and docks.

The views are breathtaking, with depth of field from the green slope to the marshland lower square to the seaside, the harbor docks and the mountains of central Greece, far in the horizon.
