CULTURAL CENTER PAROS | 2005

The Cultural center of Paros, connects the town of Parikia to the seafront, organizing a outdoor and indoor activities.

The site is located on the coastal zone of Parikia, in Paros Island.

The cultural centre is designed as a complex of interior and exterior spaces, unfolding from two basic volumes, one being the building, which consists of a central multipurpose auditorium ,exhibition spaces and offices and the other  being  a void space, a square defined by the building, the road and a grove of palm trees. Through this void space, the sea view is released and can become a key element in the design.  An exterior foyer, an outdoor theatre and a sculpture garden, are the main exterior spaces.

Two parallel axes intersect these main volumes, both beginning and leading to the sea.

The landscaping is based on the surrounding topology, respects the specific nature of the Cycladic landscape and contributes in the overall creation of a cultural park, rather than just a cultural center, a sequence of spaces adapted to the island’s character.
